Slate Roof Repair in Baltimore
I repair slate roofs on older homes in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. I replace broken and slipped slates, fix flashing and valleys, and do copper work, so the good slate stays on your roof. I'm James. I've worked on roofs here for 24+ years, I've done thousands of jobs, and I'm licensed and insured, MHIC #154344. We're BBB accredited, A+.

What I repair on slate roofs
- Broken, cracked, or slipped slates, replaced with matching slate
- Rusted or leaking valleys
- Flashing at chimneys, walls, and dormers
- Vent pipe collars, including new copper collars
- Bad patches, tar, and wrong replacement slates from earlier work
I take out the broken slates, slide in matching ones, and fasten them properly. Then I put a metal bib over each nail so it stays sealed.
When a roof can't be climbed safely, I check it with a drone. I'm an FAA-licensed drone pilot. See drone roof inspections.

Questions homeowners ask
Can a few broken slates be replaced without redoing the roof?
Yes. I take out each broken slate and slide in a matching one. The rest of the roof stays as it is.
Why is my slate roof leaking if the slates look fine?
Most slate leaks come from the flashing, the valleys, or rusted nails, not the slate. Those parts wear out first and can be repaired.
Can you match my old slate?
I can sometimes find an exact match, and I always get as close as I can in size, color, and thickness. I use real slate. I'd only use synthetic slate if a homeowner asks for it.
Should I repair or replace my slate roof?
Most slate roofs should be repaired. Replacement makes sense only when most of the slates are soft or flaking. My repair or replace guide explains how to tell.
Where do you work?
