What to put in your text

A good first text saves us both a few phone calls:

• Your name and the address of the house.
• What you're seeing, in a sentence or two. A stain on the ceiling, shingles in the yard, a gutter pulling away, loose bricks on the chimney, a soft spot on the deck.
• A few pictures: one of the whole roof or wall from the yard or street, and one or two up close. A picture of a ceiling stain inside helps too.
• If it's urgent, say so in the text.

Please don't climb a ladder to get pictures. Whatever you can get safely from the ground or a window is enough. If I need a closer look, that's my job.

If water is coming in right now, see what to do first or water coming through the ceiling.

What happens after you reach out

1. I look at what you sent. I reply as soon as I can. Pictures often tell me whether it's a small repair or something bigger.
2. We set a time. If it needs an in-person look, we'll set a time for me to come out.
3. I check it and take pictures. I look at the problem and the areas around it, and show you pictures of what I found. On a big, steep roof I fly the drone first. I'm an FAA-licensed drone pilot, and it costs a lot less than setting up blocks, boards and staging. If I can't spot the problem from the drone, we set up on the roof.
4. You get a price before any work starts. I explain what's wrong in plain words and what it takes to fix it.

Is texting OK, or should I call?

Texting is fine. I text back as soon as I can, but when I'm up on a roof it isn't always safe to stop and reply, so it can take a bit. If you'd rather talk, call anytime.

What should I put in the text?

Your name, the address, what you're seeing, and a few pictures taken safely from the ground or a window.

What kind of work do you do?

Roof repair, gutters, masonry and chimneys, deck and porch step repair, and drone roof inspections.

Are you licensed?

Yes. I'm licensed and insured, MHIC #154344.

What if it's urgent?

If it's urgent, say so in the text, along with your address and a picture or two.
